Home Stay and Cultural exchange –
Home stays and cultural exchange programs can be arranged in most areas of Nepal. Participants will be placed with a Nepali family in a country side or within a city for the period of their stay. This provides the volunteers with an outstanding opening to gain knowledge of all aspects of Nepali People, Nepali Life Style, Nepali Culture and Nepali Language and finally they could taste the spicy Nepali hand made food (especially pickle). Volunteers should keep in mind that this is an educational and cultural swap over and that an attempt to offer some information of their own home culture and customs to the family with whom they stay is expected. Participants in the program will not go through training in Nepal with the other volunteers. During their home stay, volunteers will attend 2 hours of language lessons in the morning and in the afternoon. They will also have the opportunity to visit and help out at the local school. Home stay Programs is best to organized from August to December which is the time for the most part of large local festivals take place ensuing in the whole more exciting and thrilling familiarity for the volunteer. Nepali culture is typically friendly, open and participants are made to feel as though they are part of the family. Volunteers are welcome to join the Program with their children, partners or group of friends.
Home stay and cultural exchange programs are for those wanting to do a short term placement of up to one month. You will live in a traditional Nepali family and exchange elements of your country’s culture with your host family. In the village, the culture is very rich, and family, food, religion and tradition are all an important part of everyday life. In the beginning, Nepali village life may seem backward compared to life in the west, but volunteers learn so much about living a different, more simple way of life. In the home stay and cultural exchange programs, the volunteer will become immersed in family life and may choose to assist with cooking, cleaning, caring for children, working in the fields, or any other necessary task.
